IN response to "Responsible Driver" (Bolton Evening News, May 20) and his or her observations regarding Cllr Harkin's road safety ideas. The White Paint Brigade, or to give them the new hi-tec name "Speed Management", seem hell bent on "Gridlock Bolton", i.e. from Doffocker, Chorley Old Road to Horwich by introducing cycle lanes and reducing the four-lane road down to two lanes.
No amount of white paint will stop bad, impatient or reckless drivers, but what it has done is move the danger elsewhere, namely Montserratt Road, Tattersall Avenue and Johnson Fold Avenue, which have now become rat-runs because of impatient drivers cutting through these streets to avoid the gridlock area.
I await Cllr Harkin's comments when the first accident happens in one of these streets, due to the increased number of vehicles now using the area.
