I HAVE recently visited some of the First World War cemeteries (12 in all) in France and Belgium, also taking in The Last Post in Ypres, one of my cherished ambitions --absolutely staggering.
My grandfather Thomas William Taylor enlisted in the 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers in 1914. He lost both legs in action and died of his wounds in Southern General Hospital, Oxford, on April 18, 1918. He was buried with full military honours in Tonge Cemetery, Bolton, and his name was, according to a Bolton Evening News article at the time, listed on the Roll of Honour in St Mark's Church, Great Lever.
What I would like to know is, what has happened to the Rolls of Honour from St Mark's Church, Saviours Church, Deane Road, and also Emmanuel Church, Cannon Street, Bolton?
I have spoken to Mr Joe Derbyshire, the Archivist for Bolton Parish Church, but unfortunately he could not help.
He did, however, put me in touch with Sean Bagguley of The Bolton Museum, who showed me a portion of one Roll of Honour from Saviours Church in the Museum Storeroom, Lincoln Mill, Washington Street. He was unable to help with the others. Can any readers help?
