ATHERTON and Spring View must replay their Cross Cup quarter final after the two teams tied on 161-7.
The Wigan side needed 12 off the last over to snatch a dramatic win and teenagers David Gornall and Steve Williams came agonisingly close to achieving that.
They tested an Atherton side protecting the boundary with some rapid running between the wickets that brought them seven off the first five balls leaving them with five to win off the last delivery.
Gornall was the batsman facing David Charlson and although a six was never on he still managed to beat the field for a four to tie the game.
The replay will be held at Spring View on June 16.
Meanwhile Walshaw are threatening to break their poor recent record in the Cross Cup.
The Bury side has been unstoppable in the league with three successive titles but they have mysteriously under achieved in the cup.
Judging from their convincing victory over Darcy Lever to reach the last four, however, it looks like this could finally be their year.
Darcy's destruction was set up by a powerful display of batting by Brett Collins and compled by a second super bowling show in two days by captain Rob Faulkner.
Collins was on 81 when he was the last man out, letting loose with some massive sixes before he went with Walshaw on 184, pro Bashir taking 5-30 and teenager Ben Cruickshanks 3-49.
Darcy were never in it and a last wicket stand of 30 only gave a semblance of respectability to their score which finished at 89.
Faulkner was their chief tormentor when he added to his previous day's six wickets with another five at a cost of 25 runs - 10 of the coming from the last of his 10 overs.
Elton breezed through to the semi-finals with a 45-run victory over Blackrod. The extras produced most runs with 30 while Steve Duxbury hit 26 and Steve Lomax 25 as the Bury side opened with 170 all out, Steve Ashworth taking 4-33 before Blackrod replied with 125 of which Paul Dickinson hit 39.
Astley and Tyldesley also reached the last four in a low scoring game with Standish, whose target of 96 did not seem so meagre when A&T lost their first four wickets with just 20 on the board. Chris Bullock (39 not out) and David Clare (18 not out) struck up a partnership which saw A&T home with four wickets to spare.
)ATHER AND SPRING VIEW NEED GOING IN)
