SPRING View looked as if they had consolidated their stay at the top of the table after they had bowled out Clifton for a modest 115 - but they reckoned without the individual talent of the opposition.

Teenager Andy Griffiths played his part with the bat hitting 88 out in his side's total but surely that was never going to be good enough to test a side with batsmen of the quality of Tony Kelly and Paul Matthews.

For once, however, Griffiths had to take a back seat in the bowling stakes as Daniel Varney and pro David Parkinson took a stranglehold on the game.

Parkinson finished with 4-35 but the game's revelation was the performance of second teamer Varney who claimed five wickets for four runs off nine overs.

That wiped out View, who after reaching 40-1 with Tony Kelly top scoring with 26 against his old club, collapsed to 60 all out, nine wickets falling for a handful of runs.

Spring View stay top of the table with Golborne, who didn't play, six points behind while Clifton's win took them to third, a further four points adrift.

Lostock picked up a second successive win as they piled on further problems for Edgworth.

They dismissed Edgworth for 106, pro Rehman Shah taking 5-43 and Phil Hall 4-45 before Shah produced an unbeaten 61 in a partnership with Phil Knowles, 28 not out, that eased Lostock to a very comfortable nine wickets win.

Daisy Hill's problems this season seem to lie with their weak bowling attack yet it was the batsmen who failed when they faced Astley & Tyldesley.

They could only manage to score 83 as Steve Walsh 5-24 and pro Bashir Khan 5-38 took centre stage.

Bashir then top scored with 37 but credit to Daisy who limited A & T's reply to 86-7.

Little Hulton picked up a four wicket win at Elton, with a little bit of help from bowler Andy Sutherland and batsman Mark Penny.

Sutherland collected 5-55 as Elton were held to 122-3, pro Chris Hall hitting 55 of those runs, while Penny hit 47 in Little Hulton's winning 123-6.

Rob Faulkner, the new captain of the Association inter-league side, confirmed his form with a fine all-round performance in the five wicket win at Standish.

He took 6-36 as the Wigan side were bowled out for 110, Simon Maiden doing his best to keep the scoreboard moving with an innings of 57.

Faulkner then played his part in the reply hitting 22 while Liam Riley was unbeaten on 27 and Jonathan Fielding 26. Standish pro Arindam Sarkar picked up 4-43.

Atherton's problem this season is that they have drawn too many games and that proved the case again on Saturday when they failed to claim the final wicket that would have given them victory over Blackrod.

Batting first they scored 156, Phil West 65, while Terry Southworth's 5-63 kept the other batsmen quiet but when Blackrod batted, the last pair frustrated the bowlers, finishing the game on 111-9, Greg Dimery taking 5-19.

Super Matt rips

through Darcy

PRO Matthew Taylor was the hero of Adlington's seven wickets win at Darcy Lever.

The home side were on course for a good looking total when they reached 98-1 but that's when Taylor took over and things started to slip away.

He claimed 6-49 and instead of reaching a total approaching the 200 mark they had to settle for 153.

Adlington's early reply, however suggested that might be enough as they scored only 43 from the first 24 overs but then Mike Rawlings hit four sixes and six fours in a rapid 74 not out while Andy Robinson added a valuable 55 to take them to 157-3.
