FOOTBALL mad brothers Simon and Johnny Jones were so keen to get their favourite seats to watch England's first World Cup match that they volunteered to clean their local pub.
The pair asked landlady Carole Crane if she would open the Nab Gate, in Arthur Lane, Harwood, early so they could pick the seats with prime views of the wide screen TV.
When she joked that they would have to come in with the cleaners to get in before everyone else the brothers agreed to don rubber gloves and help get the pub sparkling.
Carole, who has run the watering hole with husband Andrew for 12 years, said: "It was just a joke but they are good sports and they took me up on the offer. I couldn't believe it.
"I told them they would have to wear pinnies and get stuck into the vacuuming and cleaning to get the pub ready for opening time."
Johnny, a 35-year-old shot blaster from Radcliffe, took care of the mopping, while 33-year-old Simon, a care assistant from Breightmet, agreed to do the vacuuming .
Johnny said: "It backfired on us when we said we wanted to get in early. My girlfriend wasn't impressed because she says I never do any housework at home.
"I really hate it but we decided it was worth it to get a good view because we knew the pub would be really busy for the match."
