I AM writing from Hawaii after hearing that they want to fluoridate Bolton's water.

After 50 years of stopping fluoridation in Hawaii, I would like to provide you with information as to why we were successful.

First of all, from data provided by the Health Department, tooth decay is mainly caused by "baby bottle tooth decay" (BBTD), poor diets and poor dental hygiene, not lack of fluoride in Hawaii's good water.

The Health Department spent most of their dental hygienist resources counting cavities in school children instead of effective preventive education to prevent BBTD. Our recommended solution was to have the paediatricians and gynaecologists become part of the education team to stop decay before and after birth, not wait until it is too late.

The second biggest issue is the fact that fluoridation chemicals are industrial grade with poor quality controls, thus allowing much higher levels of heavy metals such as arsenic, lead, etc which accumulate in the body. No logical person would agree that adding this junk stuff into the water would help people with fragile kidneys and immune systems such as cancer, asthma, lupus, arthritis, diabetes and the chemically sensitive. Furthermore, many Hawaii residents were former plantation workers and are fully aware that the sodium fluoride used (which comes with a skull & crossbones label) is the same stuff sprinkled in the cane fields as rat poison. No matter what proponents may say with spin words such as "everything is a poison, even table salt", it will not change the quality of the rat poison or fluoridation chemical. Also if one noticed, table salt does not come with a poison label.

Please, if you think this is sensationalism, check out the American Water Works Association standards used for fluoridation chemicals before you jump from the frying pan into the fire because you were misinformed.
