PEOPLE power has forced a rethink on plans to tag Lowton and Golborne homes with a Newton-le-Willows postcode.
After hearing that Royal Mail had dropped the postcode change idea a delighted Cllr Brian Strett said: "Without a doubt people power has forced this. We got over 4,000 signatures from objectors and loads of individual letters were written in protest to the plan.
"The Royal Mail was overwhelmed by the level of opposition."

Royal Mail spokesman, Gary Hardy, said: "As we indicated at the outset we wanted to hear the views of those who would be directly affected by the changes. Clearly the proposals were unpopular with many residents so we have decided to explore alternative ways of improving the quality of servioce in this area.
