THE mother of a Bolton musician has spoken about her pride as her son played a lead role in celebrations to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
Mark Williams, aged 23, whose parents live in Appledore Drive, Harwood, played the organ at St Paul's Cathedral for part of yesterday's service. His music accompanied the Queen's entrance into the cathedral.
His mother, Liz, said Mark, who now lives in London, was very nervous before the event and was even practising up to midnight on Monday night.
She said: "I phoned him at 11pm on Monday to see if he was enjoying the fireworks and music in London, but he said he was still in the cathedral practising. He was really looking forward to it, but was also nervous because he wanted it to be perfect."
Mrs Williams was glued to the screen to catch a glimpse of her talented son, and also videoed the event for her husband, Peter, who was away.
The former Bolton School pupil was appointed assistant organist at the cathedral two years ago after finishing a music scholarship at Trinity College, Cambridge.
