FOUR days of partying came to an end last night -- during which Bolton was dubbed the party capital of the UK.

People of all ages entered into the Jubilee spirit throughout the town over the long Bank Holiday weekend celebrating the Queen's 50-year reign.

More than 90 organised street parties were held in Bolton -- believed to be more than in any other town throughout the country. Only London boasted a higher number of organised events.

For many people throughout Bolton, though, it was still party time yesterday.

Friends and supporters of Bolton Hospice celebrated the Jubilee with an "indoor" street party, consisting of games, music and memorabilia of the Queen's coronation.

The hospice, off Chorley New Road, was decked with bunting and balloons as partygoers waved their Union flags and tucked into a celebratory buffet.

Organisor and senior sister, Lynn Bell, said: "We have had so much fun. It's nice to celebrate the occasion together like this."

Union flag hats and bow ties were the order of the day for the group at Deane's Emmanuel Church Drop-In Centre, where members joined to celebrate the Queen's 50th year with raffles, games and enjoyed watching the event on television.

Regulars at the Hart Common pub in Westhoughton raised more than £700 for their community chest during their Golden Jubilee party with tombola stalls, raffles and fancy dress. They now hope to use the cash to organise events for children and pensioners during the rest of the year.

Landlady Christine Cheetham let customers throw wet sponges at her to raise extra money and one guest, 81-year-old Vera Lovett, was given the honour of being Queen for a day.

Westhoughton mayor Jo Worthington, who got the festivities under way, said: "We had a wonderful day. The people of Hart Common have a great sense of community spirit and their hard work deserves to be recognised." Other Westhoughton pub-goers joined in the Jubilee festivities at the Red Lion. While the adults enjoyed a game of bingo, youngsters were entertained by a clown -- and they all joined together to throw wet sponges at landlord George Tipton.

Mr Tipton said: "We've had an absolutely fantastic time. The place has been decorated with everything red, white and blue and we've enjoyed a three-course meal and music."
