I AM writing to express my disgust at the disappearance of the geese of Firwood Fold, in Bolton.
For 27 years these creatures have roamed the Fold. Through no fault of their own they were left homeless after their owner died. Someone new to the Fold took it upon himself to home the geese and their beautiful babies. What a lovely sight to see as one strolled down the Fold and saw the geese on the green protecting their babies to give them a chance.
Well, all of a sudden, some residents started to complain about the geese and then they were thrown off their land, babies and all, and taken somewhere else. These people have no respect for what Firwood Fold stands for. It's part of our heritage and the pictures in the Town Hall and museum show the geese. There were no discussions with the residents who have lived there for most of their lives. They were just got rid of.
I was a frequent visitor to the Fold, but now it's not the same without the geese. Firwood has changed because of people not interested in our heritage.
