JAPAN soccer fans were apparently so excited by the World Cup soccer match against Russia on Sunday that they held off trips to the toilet until halftime, according to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
During the first half of thematch, which ended in Japan's first ever World Cup finals victory, water use was well below normal, hitting around 20,000 cubic liters, the metropolitan government's waterworks bureau said.
But at half-time there was a massive increase in demand to 30,000 cubic liters, most likely due to synchronized toilet flushing across the capital.
Demand dropped rapidly again in the second half to only 15,000 cubic liters before springing back up again to 27,000 cubic liters within 25 minutes of the end of the game won 1-0 by Japan.
"Demand for water suddenly leaped during half time and after the " a metropolitan government spokesman said. "Of ter for, but the period of high demand was very short, so we imagine it was for the toilet."
