THE case of a man who stole a cheque and forged the signature in order to exchange it at a pawnbroker's was adjourned by magistrates so he could be assessed for a drugs treatment and testing order.
Craig Ackroyd, aged 30, of Walmersley Road, Bury, appeared before the bench at Rochdale.
He admitted charges of stealing a cheque and falsifying it. He also asked for a shoplifting offence to be taken into consideration. The magistrates adjourned the case until July 11 while Ackroyd is assessed for a drugs treatment and testing order.
Ackroyd was stopped by officers in Rochdale because he appeared to be acting "furtively".
He was searched and found to be in possession of a stolen cheque which he had signed himself.
Ackroyd was granted bail with conditions.
