TWO young heroes saved the life of a five-year-old girl after she slipped into a lodge.
Jade Turner, of Kirkstall Gardens, fell into the water at Red Bank Lodges at Radcliffe.
Terry Walsh, aged 13, of Park Grove, and Dean Warwick, aged 12, of Stainton Park, saw Jade fall in and took immediate action. They pulled her from the water and lifted her head back to clear her airways.
Jade's father, Chris Turner, has called for the lodge to be filled in or fenced off.
He said: "We are so grateful to the boys for saving Jade's life. There's no doubt that but for them she wouldn't be alive.
"You can warn kids about the dangers of water and tell them to stay away until you're blue in the face but they'll go ahead anyway. My wife's back was turned for just one minute when Jade wandered off." The lodge is owned by Bury Council, and while Neil Long, head of parks and countryside, sympathised, he said it is unlikely that the lodge would be filled in as it is a haven for wildlife.
He added that people would be able to climb over fencing which could also hinder rescue attempts.
