An Octagon Theatre Production, Second From Last In The Sack Race.
David Nobbs' moving and gloriously funny novel of a young boy's passage to manhood is set in the dusty back-to-backs of the north of England through the 1930s - 1950s.
Given brilliant life in Michael Birch's vivid, fluid and fast moving adaptation, the play traces the ups and downs of the likeable Henry Pratt from birth to his eighteenth year and the call of the King's Army.
Shoved from pillar to post, as families do what is best for their kids during such hard times, Henry's spirit is seldom dented. On the contrary, with all the world to conquer and a lifetime to do it in, what more could the young Pratt want other than life's great adventure?
Moving and funny, the play evokes mixed emotions as the warmth of the characters and storyline make this a production not to be missed. The cast includes Paul Simpson, Anthony Bessick, James Nickerson, Alison Burrows and Sue Twist.
