MILITARY mum Lesley Cunningham's devotion to the Army cadet corps has earned her a top award.
Lesley, who has served with Queen's Lancashire Regiment's cadet detachment in Fletcher Street, Bolton, for the last six years was presented with a Commandant's Commendation at a ceremony in Manchester recently.
Her detachment also earned a commendation from Col Charles Connolly, and medals were awarded for competing in a long distance marching competition organised by the RAF.
Lesley, a mother of three, first joined the Bolton cadets to help out with paperwork and in the canteen. In 1999 she was given the Queen's commission, now holding the rank of second lieutenant.
Her daughters, Charlene, aged 22 and Elaine, aged 20, have been members of the detachment and son Paul, aged 12, is waiting to join when he turns 13. Elaine was so keen on military life that she joined the Territorials and is now about to join the regular Army. Membership of the cadets is open to boys and girls aged 13 to 18 and there are vacancies for adult youth leaders. For more information contact 0161 237 3739.
