NORTH-WEST farmers have been urged to take extra care when making silage to cut the risk of water pollution.
The Environment Agency has made the appeal after revealing that silage effluent can be 200 times more polluting than untreated sewage.
Advice includes avoiding making silage when weather is wet and emptying effluent tanks on a regular basis.
