IHAVE just read your article on Bertie Lewis, and his long campaign for peace.
I admire anyone who speaks up for their beliefs, but wouldn't it be more appropriate to sell white poppies on July 4, seeing he's American, rather than upset all the ex-servicemen on the November 11 Remembrance Parade?
I was standard bearer for the Women's section of the British Legion for 10 or more years, and can tell you he's lucky he hasn't had a few standards wrapped round his neck.
Let him organise his own parade and poppy day on ANY date but November 11.
I for one would buy one, and anyone else who believes in peace.
On Remembrance Day, we honour all our lads and girls who gave their lives for peace, so leave that day alone Bertie.
