A SECURITY guard was hurt while trying to break up a fight between two teenagers on the eve of the Westhoughton Show.
He was guarding the showground in Central Park when he saw the youths fighting nearby at about 9pm on Saturday.
When he tried to intervene they began punching and kicking him. Some of their friends then joined the attack, which ended on Bolton Road.
A marquee was damaged in the incident. The security guard later made a statement to the police.
The show itself on Sunday passed off peacefully, despite fears about a repeat of last year's trouble when up to 100 youths threw bricks at the beer tent and a couple who were managing it had to flee for safety.
Sgt Ray Jackson from Westhoughton Police said: "This year's show was a success and there was no repeat of the trouble we experienced last year.
"We had to deal with a few youths causing trouble, but on the whole the crowds were very well behaved."
