A PLAN to raise the toll rates of a North-west tunnel will get a second reading in the House of Commons today.
The Bill would give the Mersey Tunnel's owners, Merseytravel, the power to raise tolls in line with inflation.
Merseytravel has already admitted that a hike in tolls will be needed to fund £14m worth of safety improvements.
Local MPs, trade unions and businesses are opposed to the scheme. They say a raise in the toll price will mean a decrease in trade in the area.
