I HAVE recently had the misfortune/fortune to be an inpatient at two hospitals -- one here in the North-west and the other in East Anglia.
The care was good at both hospitals and, fortunately, I made a good recovery on both occasions. However, I was somewhat surprised to notice an evident difference in resources between the two hospitals.
I have since discovered that different health authorities are given significantly different sums of money per head of population per year. On average, this is £1,000 per person per year, varying from £1,300 per person per year for Norwich (a rural area with a high incidence of asthma) to only £750 per person per year for the Bolton/Wigan area.
Would the people of Bolton care to comment on these differences?
