A TEENAGER kicked and battered about the head with a wooden fence post during a gang attack in Bolton has spoken of his terror.

Christopher Diver, aged 17, suffered cuts, bruises and a broken nose after three teenagers pounced on him as he walked along The Welland in Westhoughton last month.

Three friends with him managed to escape unhurt.

But Christopher, of The Pewfist, Westhoughton, fell to the ground unconscious after the attack. He was found lying on the pavement by a mystery Good Samaritan who helped him stagger for help to nearby Westhoughton Police Station.

Today, detectives urged the man, aged in his 30s, to get in touch, saying he may hold vital clues.

They described the attack, at 11.15pm on Friday June 2, as "vicious and completely unprovoked."

A spokesman said today: "This man may have vital information which could help us. I want to reassure him all calls will be treated in confidence. I would also urge anyone with information to contact us and help catch these people."

Christopher added: "I was scared and thought I was going to die. They were just kicking the back of my head. We had been playing football and were walking to a take-away to get some food. We walked past a gang of lads when one of them hit me in the throat then they just started kicking me."

His father Alex, aged 39, said "We just want to catch these people as next time someone might not be as lucky. It could have been a whole lot worse. I would also urge the man who helped him walk to the police station to contact the police.

"He did a great job and I want to thank him."

Christopher was released after treatment at the Royal Bolton Hospital. His attackers are thought to be aged between 15 and 19.

Any witnesses are urged to contact Astley Bridge CID on 0161 856 5751 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
