A TRAIN line that time forgot will be back in action again for the August Bank Holiday weekend.
A heritage passenger train will pass over the track -- which serves Atherton, Hindley and Swinton -- for the first time in a decade on Saturday, August 24.
Only a short middle section of the line is in daily use and it still has much of the old 60ft-long rails, unlike most passenger lines which have continuously welded tracks.
The train, comprising of 12 coaches from the 1950s and 1960s, will use the line on its way from Oldham to Edinburgh. Passengers will travel through Carlisle, Gretna Green and the Scottish borders before reaching the Scottish capital.
Tickets for the trip are priced at £36. For more information, contact Green Express Railtours on 01484 422920.
