A DERELICT church was left heavily smoked-logged after a fire in the doorway.
All Souls Church in Halliwell, which has a special protection order on it because of the building's ornate roof, only suffered minor damage in the fire which is believed to have been started deliberately yesterday.
The fire, which started in a pile of rubbish next to a side-door, is believed to have burned steadily for some time before being spotted at 8.30pm last night and created a large hole in a solid oak door of the Tarvin Walk church.
