NEWSHOUNDS at Westhoughton High School have been presented with an award for their top class school newspaper.

The Informer has been the school's official publication for two years, and is now even on the Internet.

Pupils Michael Wilkinson, Chay Brooks and Cheryl Hughes, all aged 14, have been working hard to make the newspaper the most popular school newspaper on the web, and were presented with the Ken and Jean Vann Trophy for Innovation.

The editorial team publish The Informer every month, with further editions produced for special events, such as the building of a new block at the school.

Headteacher Ken Vann is very proud of his news team. He said: "The newspaper is absolutely superb. That's why we have presented the Informer with the trophy.

"The team has been producing newspapers like this since they were in their primary schools. They were a group of self-starters who created the newspaper from scratch."

This is the first year the award has been presented by Mr Vann, who is retiring at the end of the school year.
