A GROUP of young Bolton people have set out on a new scheme aimed at boosting personal skills and confidence.
The Prince's Trust Volunteer Scheme, run in conjunction with Greater Manchester Fire Service and Bolton Wanderers, has taken on its first 17 recruits. The youngsters, from a variety of backgrounds, are all unemployed but hope the skills they learn on the 12-week course will soon have them on the road to work.
Over the next three months the volunteers, aged 16 to 23, will gain practical qualifications in subjects such as food hygiene and first aid, as well as improving their team working ability and confidence.
The course promises to be fun as well as hard work with a community project for the volunteers to carry out as well as fund-raising and a residential activity week in the Lake District.
This week's activities have included meeting their sponsors at the Reebok Stadium and getting a demonstration of fire service skills at Horwich Fire Station.
