A TERRACED house has been transformed into a home for the whole community where residents will help build a brighter future.
What was once a crumbling eyesore on a street in Farnworth has been renovated at a cost of £100,000 to create an Urban Care Centre.
The centre, on the corner of Campbell Street and Georgiana Street, will give free access to computers and training for unemployed people and single parents and provide meeting rooms for community groups fighting to improve the area.
It will offer limited creche facilities for people using the IT room and attending meetings and it is hoped there will be free phone links for groups to ring the council.
Jim Leyland, project officer in the council's regeneration unit, said: "People had been complaining about the state of the house for years. It was an eyesore and the entire area was teetering on the brink of decline."
Interviews are taking place this week for a development worker who will run the centre, which will officially open with a Commonwealth Games-themed gala on July 26.
Project funding came from St Vincent's Housing Association, the Government's Single Regeneration Budget and Bolton Council.
Groups using the centre include the Cawdor Residents' Association, Campbell Community Group and SureStart.
The Games open day takes place at 84 Georgiana Street on Friday, July 26, from 1pm-6pm. Attractions will include a samba band, competitions and circus skills displays.
