A EURO MP has said the region's cockle fishing industry is in danger of collapse because of over-stringent rules from the Foods Standards Agency.
Sir Robert Atkins, MEP for North-west England, said a Southport-based cockle processor was under threat.
The FSA demands British cockles are tasted for Diarhetic Shellfish Poisoning.
