COUNCIL staff from across Greater Manchester have been hailed as "green champions" by Environment Minister Michael Meacher.
Mr Meacher was taking part in the first 2002 Recycling Awards at the Lowry Hotel, which aim to encourage a "recycling culture".
Some 50,000 tonnes of paper have so far been recycled in Greater Manchester.
