IS there a family still in Bolton with an ancestor Thomas Banks who was killed in action in the First World War?
I ask because reader Lee Hewitson has contacted me to say that when his grandmother died some time ago, he found in her belongings a large bronze medallion and information card, awarded to Thomas Banks' family.
"Thomas lived with his sister at 20, Cross Street, Bolton, around 1914," writes Lee. "How my grandmother obtained the items I have no idea; I would like to return them to the relatives of Thomas, but I have no idea how to trace them."
Well, Lee, let's hope that this does the trick. If you are connected to Thomas, you can contact Lee at 129 Alfred Street, Bury, BL9 9EQ (Tel. 0161 9595148).
