MAY I respectfully suggest that town councillors, regardless of political leanings, organise their meetings during evening hours.
When Horwich was under the guardianship of Lancashire County Council, the only person to receive payment at these meetings was the Chairman (now elected to Mayoral status).
The many functions he or she attended were regarded as part of their position, and were not financially rewarded.
The yearly-published sums of money paid to present day councillors would be better spent in reward and appreciation to Town Hall staff, who, in my opinion, are justified in taking strike action.
