DAVID Barnett is taking to the streets of London this weekend to join in the Queen's Jubilee Road Race in aid of the Derian House Children's Hospice.
David, aged 33, has been a postman with the Royal Mail in Bolton for the past four years.
He has been training for the event around his home in Smithills.
David said: "I'm used to pounding the streets, but it is usually with a sack of mail alongside."
Michael O'Reilly, the former international marathon runner is the man behind the event and has ensured it is accessible to all by making the race a distance of 10 kilometres. It has gained wide support from a number of well known athletes including Liz McColgan, Zola Budd-Pieterse, Rosa Mota and Yoku Arimori some of whom will be taking part in the race. The competitors will race from the Hard Rock Cafe in Piccadilly and finish at St Paul's Cathedral passing a number of London landmarks along the way.
Susie Poppitt from the Appeals Team at Derian House in Chorley is delighted that David is taking part and believes the day will be exciting for all involved. She said: "We are grateful to David for all his efforts on our behalf."
