A PENSIONER was mugged and repeatedly stamped-on as she was making her way to church.

The 72-year-old was attacked from behind by a teenager thought to be 16-years-old. He grabbed her handbag, containing £200 of cash, seconds after she got out of her car on Stowell Court, Halliwell.

She was going to St Matthew's Church at 7.30pm yesterday.

The attack, in which she was stamped on her upper body, left her bruised and shocked and needing treatment at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

The attacker is described as white, 5ft 6in with a round face. He was wearing a royal blue tracksuit, tight denim jeans and a light-coloured baseball cap.

Detective Inspector Mo Shafiq said: "This was a despicable attack on an innocent woman. We are treating it very seriously."
