THIS photograph of the St. Thomas's, Halliwell, C. of E. School football team was taken in 1951, says Mr Cyril Dean who sent it to me. "I now live in Suffolk, but still read the Bolton Evening News on the Internet, and I found the picture when looking through some drawers; it must have laid there for years.
"I believe the people on it are, back row, from left, Mr Bonzey, headmaster, someone with the name of Scooles, Alan Ottley (he died about 15 years ago), Frank Warburton, myself Cyril Dean, someone with Norman in the name, then a boy named Thompson, whose family had a dry cleaning shop on Halliwell Road. I think the other teacher was Mr Francis. Front row, from left, is, I think, Colin Ward, then someone called Wright who I think emigrated to Australia, a boy with the name Gordon in it, followed by Clifford Tolliday, and finally someone called Holt." As you can see, Mr Dean is not at all sure of the names, but he would like to get them if possible. If you can help, he lives at 12, Old Priory Gardens, Wangford, Beccles, Suffolk, NR34 8RH (Tel. 01502 578 204, e-mail: cyrilwangford@lineone.net).
