AFTER reading Mr Brian Derbyshire's letter (Bolton Evening News: July 22), I felt compelled to put pen to paper.

He raises issues about the current state of the nation's television viewing and the continual use of foul language in the name of "adult entertainment".

He seems to have answered his own argument. Adult entertainment is exactly what the name suggests and that is why it is shown after the 9pm watershed.

Surely he doesn't realistically expect serious actors to portray scenes such as domestic violence by merely telling each other to "push off". In order to engage you in the programme the scenes have to be as realistic as possible.

As for his comments about reality TV, there's no better soap opera than real life. Maybe voyeurs were dirty old men in raincoats in his day but some of us actually find this entertaining viewing.

So I end this letter by telling Mr Derbyshire to "get a life!" and if he doesn't like what's on the TV, switch it off!

Trying spending your leisure time more fruitfully by writing moralistically high grounded letters to the local newspaper.
