"The broad road running to the foot of the picture is the half-finished scheme for joining Chorley Old Road to Old Kiln Lane and Victoria Road," read the caption.
"Striking north through the Johnson Fold estate, it is proposed that the broad avenue shown shall go forward to Astley Bridge through Halliwell, thus linking Crompton Way with Beaumont Road - a half-circle of the borough."
