SEBASTIAN Chabbaret has earned himself another chance to show his Premiership potential.

The 24-year-old keeper from the French club Lens on trial with Wanderers in Italy, impressed in last night's 2-1 victory over Bulgarian side Litex Lovech and has been pencilled in for a game against Inter Milan at Reggiana on Saturday.

But Brazilian striker Junior is on his way home having failed to convince Sam Allardyce he has what it takes.

"The goalkeeper performed very well in terms of the shots he had at him and the saves he made," the Wanderers' boss said, encouraged by the succession of saves Chabbaret made late in the game to prevent the Bulgarian UEFA Cup entrants snatching a draw.

"There was a bit of exaggeration as you get with some foreign goalkeepers but his agility and shot stopping were very good and he'll work with (goalkeeping coach) Fred Barber for the rest of the week before we make our mind up after the Inter game.

"Junior had a little more of a difficult time of it. He's got a lot of talent in possession but his overall strength and pace were not good enough for what we are looking for."

Wanderers will check out others on their list of "squad fillers" - primarily from the French market - but Allardyce says he is being selective in the trialists he brings in.

"We're not in as desperate position to get people in as we were in previous years," he said. "We're only talking about checking out one or two."

The manager, who saw his players thrash a local representative side 13-0 on Sunday, is hoping the luck his team enjoyed in Bormio last night will carry into the new Premiership season when it kicks off on August 17.

Wanderers were 2-0 up inside 34 minutes, courtesy of an own goal and a close range header from Henrik Pedersen after the ball had rebounded off the bar. The Bulgarians finished with a flourish, however, and pulled one back six minutes from time through Rosen Kirilov.

Dean Holdsworth (groin), Mike Whitlow (ankle), Gerald Forschelet (calf) and Michael Ricketts (flu) were all forced to miss the game while Jussi Jaaskelainen, Youri Djorkaeff and Jay Jay Okocha were rested.

The only major concern for the backroom team is seeing Stig Tofting continue to struggle with the foot problem that cost him games at the end of last season and which troubled him during Denmark's World Cup campaign.

"Otherwise it has been a very successful tour," Allardyce said. "In my time at Bolton these are the best facilities I have known and certainly it's been the best preparation we've had.

"Working at altitude has been a great help from the overall fitness point of view and while the first game was a little showpiece against a local team, this one was a lot better. They have a good standing in their own country and in Europe.

"Inter will be the finale and will be a very good test at the end of a successful trip."
