TIME for more news about the Bolton Wednesday Football League, which, says Mrs Mona Hulme, of Tonge Moor Road, Bolton, was active before the Second World War, and resurrected after the war.
"My late husband, Matt Hulme, played for Bolton Transport," she writes.
"It was a very good team and won the Ryder Cup in 1950-51. I know there was a Markets team, ably run by the owner of the weighing machine stall. Other teams, I think, were the Police, Co-op and possibly Gas or Water.
"The Transport team was run by Joe Whittaker, Percy Ratcliffe, Harry Ainscow, and had a magic trainer Roland Taylor (Tal). There were some very good amateur footballers, and one named Clarke (not the goalkeeper) went to Bury, and later to a southern club."
Mrs Hulme says that on this picture, husband Matt is seen far left on the back row, and other names that come to mind at Stan Robey, Tommy Bleakley, Nobby Clarke, Stanley Guffog, Tommy Massey, ? Broadhead, Arthur Kay, although not all of them are on this picture. Mrs Hulme also says she would be happy to hear from anyone who would like to see other photographs she has; if so, please contact her on Bolton 591677.
