ONE of your correspondents last week was clearly angry about being booked for speeding.

He suggested the police should concentrate on other forms of crime, though he admitted driving at 38mph in a 30 mph zone.

Cars can be lethal weapons. Ten people are killed and hundreds injured every day on our roads. Speeding is a major factor in most accidents. The chance of surviving a crash at 40 mph is 10 per cent, but it is 90 pc at 20mph.

The police are right to tackle the crime of speeding, just as the Council are right to try to make our roads safer.
