I REFER to Mrs J Pearson's letter (Bolton Evening News, July 12).

I completely agree with Mrs Pearson in that all views should be considered while looking for a satisfactory solution to the Rumworth Bridge situation.

I represent Hulton Park Ward, which includes Lostock residents on the Junction Road West side of the railway lines. All representations made to me by Hulton Park residents have been that the bridge should be re-opened.

I have therefore put their views to the relevant Council Departments to that effect, which is what I was elected to do.

We would like to see the bridge re-opened, but to light traffic only. Obviously this solution would not help the current situation with regards buses and HGVs using Junction Road West, so I have also highlighted to the Highways department that traffic calming and weight restrictions for the whole of Lostock and Chew Moor also need to be considered.

If the wishes of the Hulton Park residents are met i.e. the bridge is re-opened to light traffic, along with the traffic calming and weight restriction measures, then it will be a "win-win" situation for all the residents of Lostock and Chew Moor.

I, like you, do not wish to see the returns of the "cut-throughs" on Glengarth Drive and Regent Road. But neither can we allow Lostock to be divided into two communities which the current state of play seems to have caused.
