THEY are the brains from the Crown Hotel at Horwich, but will they carry off the crown in the great Lancashire Quiz Challenge?
The team were representing their local at the latest recording of the Lancashire Quiz Challenge, which is being run throughout the summer by the Bolton Evening News in conjunction with BBC Radio Lancashire and Radio GMR.
There are eight teams from the Bolton area competing against teams from East Lancashire, all under the watchful eye of quiz master and Bolton personality Norman Prince.
The Crown team, made up of Bill Bainton, a refrigeration engineer; blind teacher Derek Hayes, who is well known in local quiz leagues; teacher Paul McGeown; and Geoff Martin, who is retired, took on the team from the Rising Bridge pub near Accrington. The boys have been together for four years, with the exception of Goeff who joined last year.
But did they win? To find out tune into the BBC Radio Lancashire or GMR on Saturday lunchtime, August 24, when the show will be broadcast.
The next recordings will be held on Tuesday, August 6, at the Cheetham Arms, Blackburn Road, Bolton, who take on a team from Snape & Co, Printers, Preston; and on Wednesday, August 7, at the Lord Raglan pub, Halliwell Road, Bolton, will be up against the brains from Hyndburn Social Services department from Accrington town hall. Anyone who wants to go along to the recordings should turn up early, they start at 8.30pm.
