FOLLOWING a very successful Tournament the B.S.F. Tennis Senior League matches resume this week.
The junior leagues have played through in order to complete their season in July and already three of the divisions are complete with two weeks of matches remaining to report in Division 4.
With some missing match cards in the first two divisions, only the junior Division 3 table shows the final position with Hawkshaw 'B' having pipped Lostock 'B' for the top spot.
Markland Hill 'A' are, however, Division 1 champions ahead of Hawkshaw 'A', and David Lloyd (Manchester) 'A' have secured top spot in Division 2, two points clear of Lostock 'A' and eleven points ahead of third placed Bradshaw 'A'.
The Haworth Cup final was hosted by Markland Hill and this year was between Bradshaw 'A' from Division 2 and Lostock 'C' from Division 4.
In these high-handicap conditions, Bradshaw must have known they had to win all 12 matches in good scores to be successful and faced an uphill struggle giving 49 games to the lower team.
They started well in the mixed by winning three out of four of the sets, but the Lostock captain Claire Harris and her partner Jonathan Hawkins upset the plan by winning their vital opening set.
In the Boys sets, the Bradshaw dominance was complete and matched the relative League positions of the teams by taking all sets to minimal scores.
However, this was the end of the rainbow for Bradshaw as the Lostock girls proceeded to play out of their skins and won three out of four of the sets paving the way for a comfortable 84 - 58 victory.
Referee David Gregory made a token presentation of the Haworth trophy on the night congratulating both teams on their ability and sportsmanship.
