POLICE spotted a high-powered car, stolen from Westhoughton, racing around the streets of Leigh at speeds reaching 100mph.
The green Subaru Impreza was taken in the early hours of Thursday morning and spotted later on Wigan Road before travelling to Westleigh Road.
It reached speeds of more than 100mph and had no lights on.
Police followed the car through Westleigh before it was dumped and set alight in the driveway of a house in Crombouke Drive.
Insp Bill Dyke, of Leigh Police, said: "We need to stop these mindless idiots who think nothing of driving at such erratic speeds then setting vehicles alight on somebody's drive.
"They could have taken lives. Who are these people? Somebody must know.
"It would be nice to catch them before they do some serious harm."
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the N-registered Impreza, or knows who might have stolen it, to call Leigh CID on 0161 856 7253 or Crime-stoppers on 0800 555 111.
