CANADIAN cyclist Clara Hughes had every reason to smile after becoming Bolton's first golden girl.
Clara won the time trial at the weekend completing two laps of the 23.4 kilometre course in a time of 34 minutes 51 seconds.
She was the first gold medal winner in Bolton.
Hundreds of cycling fans from all over the country mingled with local residents at the time trials and millions more watched the spectacle -- and marvelled at the Rivington countryside -- live on television.
Thousands more people were due to descend on sunny Rivington today for the second Commonwealth Games cycling event.
As on Saturday for the time trials, those attending today's mountain biking event were being asked to use the Park and Ride shuttle buses operating from the Reebok Stadium and Horwich Parkway rail station every three to four minutes until 7pm.
Road closures were not as extensive as over the weekend.
