CHORLEY cricket club are refusing to make any comment after they were deducted five points following an article written on their website believed to be about rivals Darwen.

The Northern Premier League outfit were punished at a disciplinary hearing this month for 'inappropriate material on a web-site which brough the league and club into disrepute'.

"No one at the club has any comment to make," said Windsor Park Chairman Norman Poole.

The article was believed to have been written after Chorley made the trip to current Premier League leaders Darwen in a rain-affected league clash on June 15.

It was brought to the attention of the league who hauled Chorley before the disciplinary committee.

"We are entering new ground with web-sites and things like that," admitted League Secretary John Cooper.

"There was no other way but to impose a penalty on the club so we decided to deduct five points.

"Some people thought it was too harsh, some people thought it was not enough but we didn't want to be too harmful on the rest of the team as not everybody was involved in it.

"It is a matter that the league will learn from and hopefully it can be forgotten about now."
