Scenes of Sombre Grandeur

Sir Charles Holmes was one of the foremost landscape artists of the 20th Century, painting and travelling widely in Europe. However it was his friendship with the Blackburn cotton magnate TB Lewis that encouraged him to try and capture the 'sombre grandeur' of an industrial landscape.
