AS managing director of a multi-million pound packaging firm, Colin Lynch is more used to making orders than taking them.
But the 50-year-old, who runs Contact Packaging in Bolton, will be at the beck and call of sport stars during the Commonwealth Games.
Mr Lynch, of Lostock, has won a job as a voluntary VIP driver at the Commonwealth Games in July and August.
"My wife thinks I'm mad, but it's such a great chance to get behind the scenes at an event which will not come around again in my lifetime," said Mr Lynch.
"It will be a bit different from managing a big firm and I love driving anyway. I even asked if I could use my Porche but it's not possible."
Mr Lynch set up the specialist packaging firm in Chorley Old Road with wife Lynne with £3,000. It now has an annual turnover of around £5 million.
He and brother Arthur, from Stockton-on-Tees, who is also volunteering as a driver, have been picked to feature on BBC 2002 Commonwealth Games Radio -- a station on 97.7 FM dedicated to the Games.
They will be the first people interviewed on a programme called "Deep Undercover" from 1pm to 3pm when the station is launched on March 4.
Producer Shirley Burgess said: "We picked them because they are such interesting characters and we will run regular updates on their progress."
Mr Lynch has an idea what to expect, although daughter Joanna, aged 25, volunteered at the Olympics in Australia and met many stars.
Son Jonathan, aged 27, is sales director at Contact and will take over the reins of the firm during the Games. Volunteers for the Games who would like to be interviewed by the BBC can contact Shirley Burgess on 0161 200 2020.
