A COUPLE of weeks ago I printed a "mystery" group picture, with the only indication of what it was being that it was sent from 27 Westland Avenue, and was inscribed: "Just to say that we are all set and happy at Delph Hill. Would you like to have this souvenir of our first 'party' - with my kind regards, Marg Roberts."
Last week, Mr Norman Parker, former Chief Librarian of Bolton, told me that another former Chief Librarian of the town, Mr Harold Hamer, was on it.
I have now been sent further information. Mr Richard Quinlan, of St Helens Road, tells me that Col Hill, who was Colonel-in-Chief of the Bolton Boys' Brigade in the 1930s was also on (that was when Mr Quinlan was a member, so the Colonel might have had that position for quite a long time).
Then Mrs Elsie Williams (ne Addicott), of Ilkley Close, Bolton, called to say that her mother appeared on the picture. Her father was not there, but they were both members of the Delph Hill Over 60s, and she thought that the picture must have been taken about 1940 because she has a photograph of her father Fred cutting a cake at the club's jubilee party.
Among others on the photograph were Mr and Mrs Percy Isherwood, who organised holidays for club members twice a year at Morecambe, plus a Mrs Hewitt and Mrs Roberts.
