CHANGES to the EU's controversial Common Agricultural Policy could help slash food prices for Bolton shoppers, according to an MEP.
Liberal Democrat MEP Chris Davies has described CAP reform as "a battle that must be won" as he claims it has kept food prices artificially high.
Under reform plans announced by EU Agriculture Commissioner Franz Fischler, subsidies paid directly to farmers will be reduced and money redirected to rural development.
Mr Davies said: "The CAP has distorted the world market for decades. It has kept food prices artificially high and encouraged methods which damage the environment."
