DAREDEVIL soldier Steve Girling doesn't flinch as he rides his bike through a wall of flame.
He is just as adept at forming a human pyramid on top of moving motorcycles.
And for good measure, he can also ride a bike standing on his head.
Until last year he had never ridden a motorcycle, but his life changed when he joined the famous Royal Signals White Helmets motorbike display team, who perform stunts at shows throughout the country.
Amd Steve was with them when they performed at the Royal Lancashire Show last weekend.
Steve, aged 32, a former pupil of Deane High School, is a corporal with the Royal Signals. He says he soon got the hang of the tricky motorbike manoeuvres when he became a member of the White Helmets last year.
"It is very tricky at first and you do fall off a few times," he said. "But the instructors give you the confidence to give it another go." Former paratrooper Steve has been in the forces for 16 years and has travelled the world, doing two operational tours in Bosnia.
But he said nothing compares to the challenge of being a member of the White Helmets. One of the most difficult parts of their display is the dangerous cross-over manoeuvre -- where the riders pass in front of each other diagonally at terrifying speeds.
Steve said: "You need to trust the other riders have confidence in yourself -- and have a good sense of balance."
