POLICE are stepping up patrols in Chorley after two women were attacked and had property stolen on the same day.
As a result of the incidents police are warning people not to carry large amounts of cash and be aware of their surroundings.
A 37-year-old woman was robbed at the rear of Harewood, Astley Village, between 12.40pm and 12.45pm on Wednesday, July 24.
She was pushed from behind and the thief grabbed her black material shoulder bag containing a purse, diary, wallet and £480. The woman was left shocked but was not taken to hospital.
The thief is described as having dark hair, wearing a grey cotton jacket and dark trousers.
Later that day a 45-year-old woman, walking home from work along Water Street, was approached at 6.30pm.
She was pushed to the floor and the offender ripped her bag from her shoulder before making off. The black leather rucksack contained a purse, £120 and credit cards.
The offender is described as a white male, of stocky build, aged 20 to 35, with a round face, short dark hair, dark framed spectacles, dressed in a casual jacket.
The victim suffered soreness to her shoulder.
Dete Sgt Mick Dagger of Chorley CID said: "We are very concerned about these two incidents. Extra patrols are being put on the streets in the area, but we are urging people not to carry large sums of cash."
